What it is
Oktoberfest starts on the Saturday after 15 September and runs about 16–18 days. Entry is free; you pay for beer, food and rides.
Tips for going on a budget
- Munich hotels triple in price, so stay outside the city and take the S-Bahn.
- Weekday mornings are the easiest time to get into a tent without a reservation.
- Bring cash; some stalls don't take cards.
