What it is
On the eve of Nyepi, villages parade giant papier-mache demon figures (ogoh-ogoh) through the streets. Nyepi itself (8 March 2027) is a day of silence, fasting and reflection: no lights, no traffic and no going outside, from early morning until early the next day.
Tips for going on a budget
- Bali's airport closes for Nyepi, so do not plan flights in or out that day.
- Guests must stay inside their hotel; choose one with on-site meals.
- Idul Fitri follows on 10-11 March 2027, so expect busy domestic travel that week.
